The truth is… you’d probably do it too

It has always driven me mental, when outsiders who are not privy to the deepest of details have the audacity to respond with “I’d never do that” when you share some of your deepest secrets and past experiences.

Truth is, If we were all alive during some of the worlds most historically devastating tragedies, like genocide and slavery, we likely would have acted the same way as our ancestors. Remember, they had brains and morals too, and you likely arent any more advanced then they were. If anything, you may be less advanced when you consider the absolute suffering our ancestors went through just to survive. Really think about that; here you are, using a maps app to get everywhere you need to go, not even knowing your best friends phone number by heart and feeling anxious when you have to go buy your first box of tampons out of embarrassment. Our ancestors, your grandparents even, lived in a completely different era - where food was not able to be ordered through your phone and delivered to your door. So who do you really think had a more functional brain?

Life is hard, life is suffering and life is far from black and white. We are influenced by so much, greatest of all, our love. Love of another, passion, or tragically your own self image and the things you may or may not do to prioritize that and those of which you love. We often fail to take into consideration the personal ties to certain situations, the personal knowledge which may dominate your decision making because as much as we always like to think we have everyone around us figured out, we really don’t and probably never will. Most of us have a hard time even figuring ourselves out since doing that requires way too much self reflection that is often easier to avoid so as to not ruin our mood that day.
